March in Clarens Feels Like a Deep Breath

There is something about March in Clarens that feels gentler. The heat loosens its grip, the evenings start asking for jerseys, and the mountains turn softer in the afternoon light. It is the in between season. Not quite summer, not quite autumn. Just calm.
If you have been waiting for a good excuse to visit, this month conveniently provides a few.
A Little Energy in the Air
On 7 March 2026, the Surrender Hill Marathon, hosted by the Bethlehem Marathon Club, brings runners and supporters into the area. Even if you are not lacing up your shoes, the atmosphere alone is worth experiencing. There is always a quiet excitement around race mornings. Coffee earlier than usual, people gathering in jackets, and that shared sense of everyone being awake before the mountains properly are.
Later in the month, on 20 March 2026, the NG Church Clarens hosts its Golf Day at the Clarens Golf Estate. It is less about competition and more about spending a day outside, talking, more than keeping score.
The Season of Slowing Down
By March the light changes. Afternoons stretch golden across the Clarens Golf Estate, and evenings arrive a little earlier. It becomes perfect weather for long walks without rushing back indoors, for cycling without the summer sun pushing you home, and for sitting outside long after you're meant to.
Many visitors come here expecting activities and leave remembering the quiet instead. The wide views, the stillness, and the feeling that time moves differently for a few days.
Planning a Visit
Weekends can fill up quickly at this time of year, especially around events and also approaching school holidays. While weekdays tend to be slower and softer, we offer midweek discounts, which makes a spontaneous escape a little easier.
